John McCain Doesn't Know Shi'ite
Taking a look at the polls and the record voter turn-out Democratic candidates have been benefiting from thus far, it’s pretty obvious the American people are not happy with the situation in Iraq. More than 60% of Americans support starting a phased withdrawal of our troops and a clear majority think going to war was a mistake. It’s that mistake that is going to doom the Republicans in the fall.
But try telling that to John McCain. Having already admitted he doesn’t know much about the economy, McCain seems eager to make the Iraq War and terrorism the main issues of the general election campaign. Like any other Republican, John McCain has his head either buried deep in sand or high amongst clouds made of cotton candy. He believes the surge has worked. The American people do not. He believes the war has been worth every penny and every drop of blood lost. The American people do not. He believes the United States can sustain another four years in Iraq. The American people do not.
So, McCain has to do something to scare people into believing the war can be won. It’ll be hard for him, for sure. After all, Saddam didn’t have any stockpiles of dangerous weapons. Well, we can’t be scared of WMDs that don’t exist! Of course, Saddam didn’t have links to al-Qaeda or the attacks of 9.11.2001. So who can we link bin Laden and his ilk to now concerning Iraq?
John McCain says we need to be scared of Iran. Because Iran is helping to recruit, arm, and train al-Qaeda terrorists. No joke, John McCain says al-Qaeda and Iran are in cahoots! The Straight Talking Senator just straight-talked his way into a solid brick wall. So, should we be scared?
No, because John McCain doesn’t know Shi’ite. That’s right, he doesn’t know the difference between Sunni Muslims and Shi’ite Muslims. Al-Qaeda is a Sunni Muslim extremist group which believes Shi’ites are heretics and blasphemers. Iran is a Shi’ite Islamic theocracy inherently opposed to any possible Sunni caliphate in the Middle East. Al-Qaeda in Iraq has been responsible for some of the worst violence and many blame them for inciting sectarian violence. It has been alleged Iran is funding and supplying numerous Shi’ite militias and groups in Iraq. So, let’s get one thing straight, Mr. Straight Talker: Al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Shi’ite militias funded by Iran are mortal enemies!
But no worries, Joe Lieberman came to the rescue and McCain said he meant “extremists.” It’s wonderful to know a major party candidate for President is unaware of demographic and cultural differences in a country we’ve been occupying for the last five years. Glad we got that cleared up, but in the meantime, thanks for the great gaffe, Senator.

Well, after five years of having a commander in chief who didn’t know anything about the country we’re stuck fighting in, John McCain wants to continue the legacy!
When I get deployed again, I’m sure not going to mistake Sunnis for Shiites—I’ll get shot at! Let’s avoid repeating the mistake of putting someone in the White House who doesn’t know who we’re dealing with in Iraq, and doesn’t care how long our military has to be there.

Al-Qaeda not only didn’t have any link to Saddam, but they had ZERO presence in Iraq until after the war was started! Their existence in that country is almost entirely because of the US occupation. This war hasn’t helped fight the “war on terror” (whatever that means) it’s in fact strengthening the extremist movements.
