John McCain will lose the youth vote
I keep hearing from friends and family around the country “wow, it must suck for you and Arizona right now.” They are surprised when I tell them “no, its actually pretty great to be a Young Democrat right now!”
We all know that John McCain will not be winning the youth vote overall, but this is also true in Arizona. Some of you may be asking, “but how do you know for sure, Stan?” Well, I’ll tell you because it’s important to know the real reasons. It’s not because he’s 300 years old, it’s not because Hillary and Barack are more hip (though they are), and it’s not only because young people just generally prefer Democrats to Repubs.

The main reason is simple, more than anything else young voters are looking for someone they can trust (“its authenticity, stupid”). The Millennial Generation, more than any other in the history, is targeted with commercials, radio ad’s, internet sites, hundreds of times a day. As a result, our generation has developed a pretty savvy bull-shit meter. So, when we see people like John McCain change positions on anything he must to secure the Republican nomination (Roe V Wade, immigration, and even water-boarding to name a few), we get pretty ticked. This is even true of young Repubs who did NOT support Johnny boy in the presidential preference on Super Tuesday here in Arizona.

McCain lost by 11 points! Even better is the young Democratic numbers. There are more registered young Republicans than young Democrats in Arizona, but more young Democrats turned out on Super Tuesday.
29,506 young Democrats
26,261 young Repubs
These numbers should be concerning to the so-called Straight Talking Senator. It is evident that younger voters are not buying the “maverick” label donned on McCain by the media.Ultimately, young people just do not trust John McCain. We don’t trust him to end the war (he’ll continue and expand it). We don’t trust him to help make college affordable and accessible. We don’t trust him to protect our Constitutional rights or civil liberties. Young voters have figured out Senator McCain: yet another double-speaking radical GOP conformist devoid of new ideas and energy. And we will come out in droves to support the Democratic nominee!
