Long awaited victory looms for Attorney General's office

Warren Jeffs, president and so called “prophet” of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, will face the court in Arizona after being convicted this week of accomplice to rape in Utah.

The group is centered in the border towns of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona, and boasts nearly 10,000 members. Keeping his eye on this case, is our own Attorney General and former Young Democrats of Arizona President (Mid1970’s) Terry Goddard, who took the lead in tackling this case several years ago back in Colorado City, which had been plagued with corruption and child abuse lead by Jeffs .

Warren Jeffs ran into hiding and hadn’t been caught until last year, just outside of Las Vegas. “History was made today in a small courtroom in St. George, Utah. I commend the jury for carefully reviewing the facts and rendering a fair verdict. Their decision is a triumph for the rule of law. “ said Attorney General Goddard.

Here in Arizona Jeffs faces charges of child abuse and incest. The next step is for sentencing to occur in the Utah Courts, which should be sometime in November. We’ll be watching and keep you up to date on this case.

  2. Go Terry Goddard. We should toast the victory of law with some Polygamy Porter – “why have just one!”
