Mogollon Young Democrats

The Mogollon Young Democrats is a new chapter (officially a chapter as of July 2009) based in Payson, AZ. The chapter was developed to reach out to Payson and the surrounding communities in Rim Country, including Pine, Strawberry, Christopher Creek, Tonto Village, Star Valley and Rye. This chapter participates actively with the Northern Gila County Democratic Club.

• House Party & BBQ in Payson, AZ (May 2009) hosted by President Vanessa Prileson; about 15 people came to this event and recruited four new members;
• Dinner & Speaker Anne Kirkpatrick Event (June 2009): hosted at Tiny’s Cafe in Payson, AZ; event was organized by Northern Gila County Democrats. Two MYD’s attended this event;
• Speaker Anne Kirkpatrick at Safeway in Payson, AZ (July 2009): This was a public Q & A session with Rep. Anne Kirkpatrick. Two MYD’s attended this event and spoke personally with Rep. Kirkpatrick
• Healthy Forest Talk at Northern Gila County Democrats/MYD’s Meeting, Payson, AZ: County Supervisor Tommie Martin spoke about ways we can incorporate economics and agriculture into creating a healthier Tonto National Forest which surrounds Rim Country. Vanessa Prileson spoke about renewable energy opportunities with wood harvesting on the Tonto National Forest and ways the community can initiate this. Vanessa also spoke about Aldo Leopold and his land ethic and agrarianism he promoted when he was a Forest Ranger.
